A 2004 Jeep Liberty Rocky Mountian Edition, 4 wheel drive, Air, power windows and side mirrors, cruise controll, AM/FM radio w/CD changer with six speakers, both driver & front passenger multi-stage airbags w/occupant classification system, Command-Trac part time shift-on-the-fly 4 wheel drive. It has a leather and cloth interior and is gold in colour, but if ya ask me, it looks more like a tan colour to me.

2008 Year In Review!!!

Where to being. Well it started off kinda on the blah and boring side , then in febuary, my life fell to pieces and went to shit. I had a major bombshell dropped on me that I never expected. The girl I loved and gave 6yrs of my life to, told me that she didnt love me anymore. That tore me apart inside and I wasnt sure what to do. After talkin about things I moved out into my own place and started over AGAIN for the 2nd time in my life. Sure it was rough being alone again. I found myself sad, lonely, depressed and just miserable. Then I started to get use to things and it wasnt long before I was back on my feet. I went out a couple of times but it wasnt the same. I found myself missing the person i was with, but I knew i had to move on. So i started small with a new tv, then a new computer, then a new sofa, and then a new monitor for my computer. Now im to the point where im suitably happy. The for my last week of holidays, I went home to Saskatoon for my birthday. Had an amazing time hoew with my folks just relaxing and not worrying about work. And most recently I started seeing someone and weve been dating for 2 months. We work around our schedules and are spending alot of time together. And now, 2 weeks away from christmas, Im flying home to spend time with my parents that I havent spent a christmas with in nearly 6 years.

What will 2009 bring?? I don't really know but god only knows it will start off a hell of alot better than 2008 did. That I know !!

As many of you know, there is currently some controversy brewing between the NHL and the Vancouver Canucks. You see yesterday the canucks made goalie Roberto Luongo the team captain. Personally I could care less whether the "C" is worn by a linesman, winger or a center. The idea of a team captain is someone who can lead this team, who inspires his teammates, is respected for his on-ice accomplishments and who embodies the core values that you strive for as a hockey club. As a five time nhl all-star I don't see why he doesn't deserve it. Canucks defenseman Willie Mitchel and will handle communications with on-ice officials, and defenseman Mattias Ohland will handle ceremonial faceoffs and other such formalities that come with being captain. Sure I'm not a canucks fan but as a fan of the game i can respect GM Mike Gillis and head-coach Alain Vignault decision. Its going to be interesting to see what the NLHPA has to say. Sometimes you gotta break with tradition and do somethings to shake things up !!!!!!

My New Toy

Well I have a new toy. I recently upgraded to digital cable and ohh my lord, what a blast it is. I went from a mere 60 channels 2 weeks ago to over 165 digital channels, 40 digital music channels, 11 sports channels, and 6 movie channels. As well i get canadian time shifting which allows me to watch channels all across canada from CVIT from Vancouver BC to NTV from St John's Newfoundland. So ohhhh yes I am enjoying this investment alot, especially the time shifting. Since nova scotia is 3hrs ahead and newfoundland is 3.5 hrs ahead, i if a show is on here in calgary at 9pm its on at 6pm here with the timeshifting. For example tomorrow is monday and the season premiere of CSI:Miami is on ctv (channel 3 ) at 10pm my time BUT with canadian timeshifting, i can watch it at 7pm on ATV ( channel 75) ...mmmmmmmmmmmmm new toys..gotta love 'em.

Just when you thought there was nothig but political bullschit on tv with the american republican and democratic conventions on us tv, it gets worse. today at 7:00am EST, our dear Prime Minister Stephen Harper, called an election for october 14th (one day after the Thanksgiving holiday. HOWEVER it is conterversial decision condsidering that in calling the election, Harper ignored his own law for a fixed election date. The Conservatives had set Oct. 19, 2009, for the next vote.

Unlike the us political system with only 2 parties to choose from, Republicans and Democrats, In canada we have several to choose from. We have:

On Sundays on encoure avenue2, they have back to back 007 movies. Its a good way to kill a sunday ( no pun intended) when there's nothing else on. Since the 1st 007 movie "Dr No" came out in 1962, there have been a total of 22 bond movies and 6 actors have played the infamous agent. Most recently Daniel Crag has taken over the roll in the last 2 movies "Casino Royale" and the forth coming "Quantum of Solace " arriving in theaters on Halloween. The latest movies budget was over $230 million and the total movie revenue from all 007 movies has exceeded $4.3 billion dollars ( actually its done $4,397,593,106 in box office sales ) and and has production costs of $1 billion ($1,098,000,000). Ultimate Rockband

With the recent arrival of Guitar-Hero and other band inspired games, it got me thinking of who would I put in my all-star rockband. It was a very very very tough decision but 1 choice was soo obvious its sickening so with that here is the line up:

Lead Guitar : Zakk Wylde ( BLS and Ozzy)

Thoughts from a brain-freeze and thaw !

After eating 24 ice cream sandwiches, drinkin half a gallon of coke and a temp of 32C ( 90F) at 9:00pm MDT my time, my brain started to think of some interesting things that, well I never remembered about before such as explaing a thunderstorm to your kids and it goes like this: "Someone took gods pictures as he farted while taking a pee". It explains how you see lightning first then the thunder. Others may explain it as "god taking pictures of angels bowling and gettin a strike" or " they are moving furniture in heaven" . IF however your like me, you reall know that is the crashing or booming sound produced by rapidly expanding air along the path of the electrical discharge of lightning. And as for snow, well to kids it could be simply "god shaking his head and getting rid aof dandruff" or " god dusting heaven" sure it sounds corny but hey its better than frozen precipitation in the form of white or translucent hexagonal ice crystals that fall in soft, white flakes.

Other things like a tornado is gods vacuum cleaner, a water spout, same thing on water, a earthquake is god redajusting the earth, volcano, coolin down the earth to make it nicer, alot can be simply explained to kids, just gotta figure out a creative way so they can understand it.

September 17, 1997. That was the day that Gopherboy was born. The legend begins at Tim Hortons in Greenwood Nova Scotia after a night of shooting pool at the arcade in the mall, we (Trevor, Steve, Mark, Barry, Rob, Tascha and myself) went to tim hortons for coffee and donuts. After several double doubles and a few snackpacks of timbits, I told the guys I was leaving and my best bud Trevor said "Well since your headed west to the land of wheat and gophers, and since your part newfoundlander, I guess that would make you a what now a gopherb'y" So since that day I have ben the gopherboy. And so the legend was born.

A wise man once said "There is an ancient legend which warns that, should we ever learn our true origin, our universe will instantly be destroyed. " and althought you now know... Everything is still here!!!!!!! Go figure

Night Crew...A Learning Experence !

Well I survived working nightcrew. What, you may ask, did I learn. Well for starters. I did like the extra $2 a hour and not having to deal with customers and working uninterupted, thats was nice. Bad side working from 10:30pm to 7: 00am, comming home at 7:30am gearing down and going to bed at 8:00am and getting up between 3:00pm and 5:00pm. The night crew guys are, to put it mildly, a bit nuts to begin with so thats good. Going for well lunch/supper at 1am is kinda wierd, then having 2 15min breaks, one at 3:00am and the other at 6:00am. But all in all a good learning experence, I have discovered that I work between 50 and 60 pieces a hour of stock which is a bit suprising since i thought it might have been a bit less, but now that I know, I'm quite surpised. Would I do it again, sure but not for a while!

Latest Addciction !!!!

This is my latest addiction. The ice cream sandwich. I really dunno why, but I just cant stop eatin these things. A friend of mine things its because its " because its like cakeish with ice cream" which makes sense since I do like both. The come in a few different varieties like vanilla, neopolitan, chocolate mint and chocolate. On the flip side you can make your own since Christies Cookies sell the chocolate wafers and of course theres many kinds of ice cream so technically you could have a coffee ice cream sandwich. The possabilities are indeed endless.

For the health conscious theres a brand called "Skinny Cow" and they put out a low fat version for those on a diet. they have vanilla, vanilla/chocolate, strawberry shortcake, mint, cookies and cream and chocolate peanutbutter. Me i prefer the Nestle Ice Cream bars, also Lucerine makes a good one too Which brings me to a idea. I should try making my own and see what possabilities may come up. Sounds like a challenge to me, so I'll keep you posted.

On a different note, im on my last 3 days on nightcrew and once I'm done at 7a on monday,i dont go back untill 6:30am on thursday morning, so i guess thats kinda 3 days off, then i work thurs to next thurs and then....HOLIDAYS!!!!!!!!

A New Safeway Adventure

Tonight I add another chapter to the life at safeway. At 11:30pm saturday night I start on the night crew. What you may ask is night crew, well to put it quite simply. Restocking the store from 11:30pm to 8:00am the next morning. I'll be working with frozen, grocery and dairy products for the next 6 days. Its gunna be a bit wierd for the first few days getting use to a new sleeping schedule. What do I get out of it, well no dealing with customers, no cashing on till, and and extra $2 a hr so for the week I'll be making $20.35 a hour. Sure sounds nice huh, well it is, only down side is comming home at 8:30am, being drained and trying to get some sleep when the suns shining, its hot, airplace leaving the airport (which is a 10 minute drive away and just on the other side of Deerfoot Trail) and busses going by basically every 15 minutes (route 5 downtown and 4 up to the 78th st terminal). So I'll see how this week goes, who knows I may volenteer to go on it maybe for 2 weeks every 2 months just for extra cash right before holidays.

Only time will tell..........................

Windows Vista...Good or Bad

Well since my old machine crapped out on me I decided to save up and a buy a new one. So sure enough 3 weeks ago I did. Its a Acer Aspire AMD Athlon LE-1640 2.7GHz Desktop Computer with a 160 gig hard-drive, 1 gig of ram, and a 16X Dual-Layer DVD Burner which will allow me to watch and or copy a dvd. After bring it home and gettin it running, i had a little glitch when it came to getting some software, but after a while I got it back up and running. Now it looks really nice, easy to use and user friendly BUT I did have some minor problems with one thing in particular. Internet Explorer. Seems that for some reason it didnt like the idea of using java scripting. but after doing some looking i found what i was looking for. So how do I like it. Id give it a 7 out of 10. ALOT of programs dont like vista or have been upgraded to run on it. But in time that will come.

After waking up at 5:00am and having breakfast ( fruit-loops and chocolate milk), I headed off to Tim Hortons for a coffee (extra large double double) and then back to the bus stop to go up to work. Sounds like a normal BDR (backdoor recieving) well it was untill 5:40 am when I was approached by 2 guys and one asked "Hey buddy. Do you have the time" to which I said sure and looked at my watch only to look up after seeing a knife at my gut and one of the guys saying " gimme your shit". So I did, I gave him my mp3 player, bus-pass, $40 and my 3 concert tickets to Iron Maiden. After doing that one of them punched me in the stomach, and they both ran off. So after regaining my breath, I walked over to tim hortons and called the police and explained what happend. So I did get my coffee and go up to work. I didn't bother reflecting on the events of the morning since I started holidays at 3:00pm. The rest of the day was uneventful and quiet. After I left work I went to the district police station and filled out the paperwork of what I lost, the cost of it which I figure is about $450 give or take, and a description of the guys. In the back of my head I really didn't see the point since I knew they probably won't catch the guys in a city of over a million people. Everything I can replace except the tickets, but my lifes not worth the tickets

2 Years of fun and a new start

Well its been 2 years now since I first started at Safeway here in Calgary, and what a fun wild ride its been. From doing BDR (Back Door Recieving) to working frozen/ dairy and grocery to starting off in a totally different department. In 2 weeks I start learing how to do work in the produce department. Am I looking forward to it??? HELL YEAH!!!!. Why you ask?? Simple. After workin in grocery for 6 years it will be a VERY welcome change of pace. Something new and exciting, less stress more to know. Most definately. Sure it will only be 2 days a week, but then again I might work 2 produce and 3 grocery shifts, or 3 produce and 2 grocery shifts a week, who knows, only time will tell. I do have only 2 complaints about workin there. One is MAGAZINES. we have to scan them all in and out, as well as books every wednesday, thats a pain in the ass. It usually takes 1 1/2 to 2 hrs so scan it all in and out on thursdays depending on the number that goes back. The other is BREAD. Its not too bad but now with a new supplier comming in its gunna take a little longer. As of this post we now sell Safeway bread (Ovenjoy), Canada Bread ( Dempsters /Olafsons) and now Westons bread (wonder bread) so only time will tell how thats gunna workout.

Ohhhh what fun it is working in the grocery industry!!!!!!!!!!!!

2 Month UPDATE!!!

Well, its been 2 FULL months since I started the anti-junkfood kick and its been going very very well. In the last 2 months I have maybe slipped a total of 5 times but all they were were small bags of chips and 2 chocolate bars. So sue me I slipped, whoopty shit!!!. Last night was a real test. You see I closed last night and the busses stop runnig here in calgary at 11:15pm, so I ended up walking home. I left the store at 11:30pm and when I got home its was 12:05am. A total of 35mins to walk home from that store and that includes a total of 2 2minute stops for lights, so If I hadn't have had to stop for those, it would have taken me exactially 30mins to walk home, mind you it sure helps having a mp3 player playing and that was niiiiiiiiiiiiice.

When I got home, I took the boots off so the feet could breath, put some water in the microwave to make a cup of tea, turned on the computer and into my comfy clothes ( family guy sleeper-pants and a white t-shirt) , I realized that I wasn't even tired nor was I even wore out. I felt invigorated !!!! Now that spring is here and the weathers getting better im gunna be riding my bike to and from work and maybe some times, walk home. Mind you it all depends on the weather of course.

Now that the new contract has been Ratified at the store and its lookin pretty good. Currently I make $16.65 a hour, now with the new contract I get an extra $0.80cent a hr bonus, which is retroactive to when the contract expired so $0.80 a hr x 40hrs a week x 52 weeks = $1664. That should be my retro pay IF they dont take taxes off. So now that brings me up to $17.45. Now 2 weeks after that we get a $0.90 a hr raise after that making it $18.95 a hour. Have ya ever watched a 60's or 70's sci-fi show and notice the wierd things other than the campy effects like Styrofoam boulders, seeing the same backgrounds over and over and over again and realize the the scripts are hokey. I guess the thing that really gets me is the sound effects. I was watching "Buck Rogers in the 25th Century" on saturday afternoon killin time before i had to go catch my bus to work and i realized that the sounds the guns made and the sound the ships made when taking off, sounded EXACTLY like the sounds of the blasters and launch sequences from "Battlestar Galatica" and then it hit me like a bolt of lightning. The guy who made "Battlestar Galactica" ALSO did "Buck Rogers in the 25th Century". None other than Glen A Larson, who would go on do other famous shows like "Knight Rider" "Magnum PI", "Automan" and "The Fall Guy"

Here we go. Starting tomorrow, 12:01a, January 18th, 2008 Iwill stop eating junk food both at home and at work. From now on ill be muching on such things as nuts, and fruits like bananas, (which i totally love) apples, oranges, watermellon and grapes,. Basically the good healthy stuff. I will however still have my coffee which is by all acounts ok with friends of mine. So heres hoping that I can do it and once spring comes upon us and I get the mountian bike tuned up its off to explore the bike trails in the city, which i am totally looking forward to now that I have a mp3 player which has all 623 songs on it totalling 25hrs worth of music, more than enough heavy-metal to keep me going !!!!

Upon moving here to calgary, I have been enjoying some rather unique foods from countries like Italy, Greece, Vietnam and China. Right now my favorite is chinese food and always has been. The New Dynasty Buffet over in coventry hills is by far my favorite. There are well over 200 items that can be ordered. Such things like deep fried won ton, grilled pork dumplings, or a shredded chicken and jellyfish cold plate. Sizzling rice dishes are mixed with shrimp or beef and tomato, beef or chicken and mixed vegetables, or hot and sour. Soups range from won ton to beef and tomato egg drop. They also have abalone, lobster and crab, prawns, squid and scallop, oyster and mussels. My personal favorite, chicken comes in a wide range of kinds. They include Ginger-beef ( my all time fav) fried, shredded, deep-fried crispy, pineapple sweet and sour and a whole lot more that i can't remember. There’s also braised duck, beef and pork sliced and sautéed in a wide range of flavours and vegetable and tofu dishes to satisfy everybody. There are hot plates and hot pots, curry and rice entrees, and noodle styles from Cantonese to Shanghai to Egg Fu Yung. Theres an all you can eat lunch for $9.45 cdn and then theres better items in the dinner buffet for $13.45cdn. and if you still have room for desert, theres also desert items like, Black forest Cake, Chocolate & Vanilla Pudding, Rice Pudding, & a whole lot of fresh fruit cake, and pastries. But one thing your gotta remember, take only what you can eat cuz they may charge you for what you dont eat, so thank goodness its really good.

Today the Canadian National Junior hockey team claimed its 4th gold medal in a row at the IIHF (International Ice Hockey Federation) championship in Pardubice in the Czech Republic by beating Sweden 3-2 to take the gold medal . Here are a few samples of the proof of canadian domination at the IIHF tournament. 20 consecutive wins, 400 minute (6hours 45mins)even-strength shutout streak, 160 minute (2 and a half hours)shutout streak or is it that Canada has the most successful Junior program in the world, having won the most gold medals (14), and most total medals (24). They have also won the last four World Junior championships. IF thats nothing how about the fact that more than half of the NHL players on the 2006/2007 rosters were born in Canada 51%, followed by Europe with 30% and the bringing up the rear, the US with *lol* 17%. And not to mention that the greatest player to ever strap on a pair of skates #99, from Brantford, Ontario, Canada is Mr Hockey. Wayne Gretzky!

Wayne Gretzky was named the greatest player in National Hockey League history by The Hockey News in 1998. Some of his many accomplishments includebeing the NHL's all-time leading scorer, he was named league MVP nine times and he led the Edmonton Oilers to four Stanley Cups in five years from 1984-88. Gretzky was traded to Los Angeles in 1988 (which many people saw as the downward sprial of the Edmonton Oilers). From there was traded to the St. Louis Blues in the 1995-1996 season and he finished his long 20 year career with a trade the New York Rangers, playing his last NHL game on April 18th, 1999. Later that year he was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame (the usual three-year waiting period was waived in his case), and the NHL retired his jersey number, 99, permanently throughout the league. No longer would ther number 99 be worn.

On May 3, 2007, the Royal Canadian Mint unveiled Gold Maple Leaf a coin with a face value of One Million Dollars. The weight of the coin is 100 kilograms and the artist was Stanley Witten. The coin is mainly a promotional product to give the RCM a higher international profile. The 100-kilogram coin was conceived as a showpiece to promote the RCM's new line of 99.999 per cent pure one ounce Gold Maple Leaf bullion coins. The coin is only made to order and so far 5 have been produced as of September, 2007. It is not 'struck' like a conventional coin but is instead cast then machined to the right size and shape.

"The secret’s out. Santa Claus takes the bus! Calgary Transit buses have been transformed into “reindeers leighs” just in time for Christmas Eve. This is the heart warming story the media have been waiting to tell on Christmas Eve. On Christmas Eve, Monday, December 24 beginning at 7:45 a.m., 10 Calgary Transit buses driven by volunteer transit drivers, will pull out of the “Magic of Christmas”registered charity warehouse located at 7220 Barlow Trail S.E. (NE corner of 72 Avenue and Barlow Trail). Each magically-decorated “reindeer sleigh” bus will carry Santa Claus and his many Elves. Buses will be filled with Christmas gifts provided by the generosity of both private and corporate citizens of Calgary. The volunteers will make deliveries of toys, food, clothing and other necessities, to Calgary's less fortunate, all day and all night long, to their homes, hospitals, nursing homes and shelters, in an effort to ensure no one is left out during the Holiday Season. The “Magic of Christmas” will visit about 3,000 people on Christmas Eve spreading the joy of the season. The US Postal Service VS Canada Post !!!

The christmas parcels were shipped and arrived safely at both households. My parcel from my folks in Iowa arrived yesterday all intact and no damage. US Customs didn't open it this year so thats really good of them. Mom mailed her parcel off on Dec 6th and it arrived here yesterday ( dec 19th ). Not bad for a parcel for the USA, 10days. On the flip side I shipped mine down there to Iowa on dec 14th and it arrived today (Dec 20th). 6 days later, and yet once again US Customs didn't open the parcel. It makes one wonder why it is that when I send something to the USA it only took 6 days and why it took almost 2 weeks to go from Canada to the USA. Wierd isn't it, but by the same token it only takes 3 days to go from where my parents live in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan to here in Calgary, Alberta a mere 386 miles away and where sis lives, Maquoketa, Ia is 1534 miles away. Time to find out how long it takes to goto Europe !!!!!!

Ok people listen up. I am sick and frickin tired of hearing people bitch and bitch and bitch about grocery prices. I bugs the crap outta me to no end to hear " ohh I can get that cheaper at walmart" or "wow that's expensive, well goto superstore and get it there". Well if ya can then go shop there and don't come back. So I thought since most people don't have a grasp of what's going on those those two companie, i'll explain it to ya. It all comes down to the simple idea of this " the more you buy, the more you save" . THATS IT PURE AND SIMPLE !! It all comes down to the fact that the more of a product you buy the more of a discount you get. So for example I buy 5 palettes for toilet paper, the supplier will give me a deal if I buy 5 more. So this way I get a big deal on them, so being the greedy, I buy 5 more and I get a deal, so now I can lower my price, sell more and make more money. Same thing applies to everything from cat food all the way down to diapers, The more ya buy, the cheaper it is for the consumer . Sure the shelves will be full with the product on a sunday or monday, but will it still be full on say thursday or friday, not a chance in hell. Once its gone, its gone so your screwed.

Is this unfair in the grocery industry. HELL NO!!!! Sure some canadian grocery companies like IGA, Sobeys, Co-op, and Safeway carry the same products and get them in everday and have stock on hand. The same situation also applies to our counterparts in the american grocery industry like A&P, Mejier, Kroger and Vons. It is happening no matter where you go, even into other countries like great britian, spain and even france.

So to those who wine and bitch about varying pricing on groceies, I saw take your business and go else where. It bugs us all all to hear "ohh I can get this cheaper at walmart" or "ohh thats too expensive, i'll get it at superstore". You WILL come back to our stores for the simple fact that we carry exactially the same products, but you won't get special deals like buy one get one free, bonus airmiles, customer appreciation day and carry out service

Whats on your mp3 player??? well on mines only about 633 songs form the VERY of "Balls To The Wall "by Accept all the way down to ZZ Tops " Sharp Dressed man". Mostly its the new stuff from bands like Black Label Society, Fear Factory, Static-X, OZZY, Megadeth, Motley Crue and Rob Zombie. Recently I added a few new ones into the mix. hey are Nightwish, Trivium and Hell Yeah.

NIGHTWISH : Nightwish is a Finnish symphonic metal/power metal musical group, formed in 1996 in the town of Kitee, in eastern Finland. Nightwish is considered one of the bands responsible for the development and rise in popularity of symphonic metal at the end of the 1990s. The band recently released a new album, Dark Passion Play, which features the charity single "Eva", the single "Amaranth", and the single "Bye Bye Beautiful" on September 28, 2007.

TRIVIUM: Trivium is a metal band from Orlando, Florida. They formed in 2000, and after three years, released a demo. The demo helped them to get signed to Lifeforce Records, where they released Ember to Inferno. Following on from this, they were signed to Roadrunner Records and released Ascendancy. Their popularity grew, as their next, and most recent album, The Crusade

HELLYEAH: Hellyeah is a heavy metal supergroup, consisting of Mudvayne vocalist Chad Gray and guitarist Greg Tribbett, Nothingface guitarist Tom Maxwell, Damageplan bassist Bob Zilla, and former Pantera and Damageplan drummer Vinnie Paul. The idea to form a supergroup originated in 2001 on the Tattoo the Earth tour, although plans were constantly put on hold due to scheduling conflicts. The summer of 2006 allowed the band to take the project seriously and record its first album.

2008 brings the return of new cds by Fear Factory. Fear Factory's eighth studio album will be produced by the band. BurtonC Bell has confirmed that Fear Factory has recently parted ways with Liquid 8 Records , and it is currently unclear which label the new album will be released on. As well as Static-X. The band will begin recording their sixth studio album in December after returning from the Operation Annihilation tour in Australia.

So those are very anxiously awaited by me and my kind!

The Year in Review

Well another years come and gone and its time too look back at the year that was 2007. Started off a bit rough on the rough side with the apendix removal and week of holidays in jan, but after my 1st xmas here in calgary, and working a insane christmas week deep down, i actually needed it *lol*. Then no real big things untill june and the Stanps season opener against Hamilton. That was killer. see my other posting about it. After that it was in september when i went home for my best bud Barrys wedding. That was a huge eye opener. Its a big thing to go from where you were a mear 10years ago in a small place of barely 2500 to a city of 1.2 million people where you are now. Sitting at the aiport waiting to board the plane home was kinda wierd and humbling knowing that in 6 hours i'll be home in nova scotia for the 1st time in 10 years. And commin down that escolator and seeing Barry made me realize that I was truely home. Once that smell of salt air hits ya, you know your home. Driving to Greenwood from the Halifax airport sure brought back a flood of memories and it was all good. Such things as driving to the airport to pick up Colleen when she came for to visit back in the early 90's. That was such a fun visit when she came for that week. To this day we still talk about it. Sometimes I talk to her for advice shes really good about givin her 2cents about things. You may not like what shes tells ya but she'll give it to ya straight, no bull, and no sugar coating. I guess that why we will always be, and are such close friends to this day.

We made a few quick stops along the way. firstly in at Windsor for a pee break and a timmys coffee. Then the next stop was in Coldbrook. After that the next stop was Kingston aka exit 17a. That was wierd and yet framilular. It is true what they say when they say "the more things change the more they stay the same" . I guess the real shock was comming up bridge street and seeing the new shoppers, sobeys and canadian tire stores. Then theres the old haunts like tim hortons, pizza delight, mcdonalds, and needs. Those places have never really changed but the people sure as hell have. Take Bruce for example, he has a daughter, Trev whos married and has two kids Willow and Gabriel ( both who are cute as hell) , steve who looks alot like red green ( google it people) and tascha who hasn't changed and steve's son Alexander. Theres a guy who was only a pipsqueek when I left. And of course Rob. He has not changed at all in the last 10years. Hes still a crazy wildman like he always was.

The base hasn't changed much but the real shock was going down past the new pmqs. Totally gone. All that remains is a empty lot with alot of trees. That was wierd like it never existed. The wedding was a blast, it was really good to catch up and see everybody again. the reception was fun too, some framilular faces. That whole week was a time I will never forget. Almost didnt come back to Calgary, but I had someone here that I cared alot about and would miss alot. The trip to the airport was rough. All the way I was thinking to myself " I gotta come back soon and the next time for 2 weeks, not the one that, but I wont be comming back alone" Once Barry and Michelle dropped me off and I picked up my lobsters it was off thru security and up to my gate. Sitting there all I could think of was the next time I would be home and I decided that I will come back in 09. The real wierd part was when i heard "westjet fight to calgary now boarding at gate 18. " last time i left nova scotia was in 97 and it was to Saskatoon, only then i had a stop in Toronto. This time it was non-stop home and home was Calgary.

The MAJOR event of the year is the arrival of my 2nd neice. Brieanna Lynn Rixen. She was born on Oct 20 2007. When she was born sis called me at work to tell me and thats the news everybody loves to hear. Shes something else. She already recognizes me voice thur the webcam talks I have with mom and dailyn. The theres little miss muffet dailyn. She is a very big help looking after her little sister. she tells lala (mom) and poppa ( dad) when bri is hungry, stinky or is crying. She even looks for me online and has on several times acording to mom has gone to the computer, looked at it, pointed to it and said "where ubba jim???" and sure enought there i am just watching her play with her toys and showing me all sorts of things like books, her feet, her barbies. So needless to say a trip to iowa is on order for next year.

And that bring us up to now. Here it is december 8th, theres snow on the ground, the temps are a tad chilly, and all my presents are wrapped, and all I have to do now is find a box for them and ship them out. I can do that at work. Just bring home a couple of apple boxes, wrap them up and them off to the post office. That i'll do on wednesday morning.

NEW YEARS RESOLUTIONS:

1) Get to Iowa to see my nieces, D and Bri.

2) Buy a house.

3) Goto the mountian is Banff, Canmore or some place like that for a weekend.

4) Do alot more mountian biking.

5) TOTALLY give up junk food like potato chips, and pop.

What a difference a week makes around here. Last week it was +12deg c and now its -25 deg c. Sure is nice bein in a place where things go from one extreme to the next. Todya for example its currently 12:04am on november 27th. The temperature right now with the windchill is a brisk -23 deg c ( -9 deg F) and the temperatures for the next week will be between -5 and -12 deg c or to my american friends 10 and 23 deg f. Taking the bus up to work today I saw this oriental lady who looked like she was ready for sibera. she had *inhales * mucklucks ( heavy winder boots), snow pants, long snow parka (covers down to the knees) , heavy gloves, long scarf, snow goggles, touque ( kintted hat) and she had her hood up. *exhales* on, and heres me in work boots, dress pants undershirt, long sleeve work shirt, fall jacket, tougue and gloves on. Was I warm, of course, was she, ohh brobably boiling but with weather extremes here, its hard to decide what to wear.

Its been almost 3 years since we lost Dimebag Darrell and we still remember to this day we remember him. Several bands have dedicated albums to this fallen guitar god. I remember when I heard he was taken from us. I was workin at the Battleforeds and District Co-op and and my heart just broke. On that day metal died and a new era began. Some call it the post dime era. His influences can be found everywhere from songs by such badns like Machine Head, Trivium, but most of all it one person very hard. Zakk Wylde, Zakk and Dime were like brothers. Zakk dedicated the song "In This River" to Dimebag, "I was looking at the lyrics, and I just said, 'Man, this has gotta be Dime's tune,' so we just made it Dime's song" says Zakk. The song gained a new importance and was improved from its original version during the live performances also with the addition of more solos, with Zakk playing with the Dean Razorback guitar Dime had given him. He dedicates each live performance of the song to Dimebag and, several times, nearly cried on stage when playing the song. He has also stated it will be played at every Black Label Society concert as long as he is touring, and I can say that it is true, as zakk said

" this song will never leave the black label set"

The vid for the song features the childhood versions of Zakk and Dime riding bicycles together and diving in to a river. At the end of the video, the grown up version of Wylde emerges, and Dimebag's doesn't appear as child or man, symbolizing Darrell's death. "The river is a metaphor for life in general, all the bullshit that you deal with from being a kid growing up. The whole thing's just about life and death." says Zakk.

On May 17, 2007 Dimebag Darrell was posthumously inducted into Hollywood's RockWalk, the only sidewalk gallery dedicated to honoring those artists who have made a significant impact and lasting contribution to the growth and evolution of rock 'n' roll.

Miss Brieanna Lynn Rixen

Please allow me to introduce my very beautiful new niece Brieanna Lynn Rixen. She was born on on Oct 20 2007 at 8:47AM. She was 5 lb 6 oz and 18 inches tall. She sure loves to eat and can down 2 oz which is impressive for a baby her size. Both Sis and brian are doing very well and Dailyn has been very very helpfull on checking in on her little sister and letting mommy know that the babys hungry, or smelly or is just plain cranky. Mom and dad left on friday night and arrived on sunday morning to the sight of sis, brian, dailyn and Bri all waithing for them. Wish I could have been there to see it, but i will in may so i can spent my dads birthday there with them. Well i'm back in calgary after and amazing trip home to nova scotia. one i wont soon forget. started off with heavy fog in Halifax and us circling over greenwood ( where i was going ) for a good 30mins or so. You see the fog can get pretty thick in halifax that we almost got diverted to Charlottetown PEI, which thankfully we didn't. we got in at 7am locl time ( 4am calgary time) and yes barry was there with my large Tim Hortons double double and once i got my luggage it was off to greenwood. a quick 2hr drive with a quick stop in Windsor for a pee break and a stretch. Once i got settled in at barrys and michelles place and being happily attacked by tango the dog it was off to get the tuxedos. as for that part well..messed up and we will leave it at that. ahhh saturday the day of the wedding gorgeous day out. about 25C ( 78F) and not a cloud around. wonderfully short ceremony and then off to you guessed it tim hortons for coffee with steve, tascha, alexander ( steves son) and rob and that was fun.

the reception was over at port lorne on the coast the hall its self was about 900ft form the coast so it was nice. food was fun, beer was cold and it was a good ole party. sunday was a relaxing day of visiting and shootin around. the rest of the week was just relaxin, drinkin (need i say more) and shopping. went for wings at the top-hat barand ounge on friday night and what a shock. the wing were not very good, major dissapointment but keiths was only $2.50 a bottle...gotta love it. saturday was more relaxin and chillin and sunday was well home time. we left the valley (me barry and his wife michelle ) at 3:30p with a stop in the mall tosee who was there but alas no one was. so it was off to the airport.we got to the airport at 5 and they had some stuff to do back in the valley so we said our goodbyes i went thru security at 6p and when i got thur it was almost 25mins later, after that i got my tims and went to the gate. the flight home was a bit rough but in all a good flight. just outside of saskatoon a lady passed out and we almost had to make a emergency landing in saskatoon but we didnt so i was happy. so we got into calgary at about 10:3pm and by the time we got off and EMS took the lady off it was about 11pm..so by the time i got home, lobsters in the fridge showered and into bed it was 1am. but its good to be home and now its time to get back to work and start savin for xmas.. thinkin i'll go back in 2yrs for a visit and hopefully i wont be alone !

What a weekend !!!!!! I went and say my parents this past weekend, and lord t'underin jesus it was fun. Left Calgary at 7:30a, fuels up and off on the grand 6hr adventure. Stopped in at Hanna, Ab ( home of Nicleback! ) as well ast stretch stops at Oyen Ab, and Kindersley Sk for a large double double and a snack pack of 40 timbits. Got into Saskatoon at 2p just as I had predicted. After gettin unloaded and settled down it was off the the double deuce bar that the folks goto..after having a few brews and gettin my ass kicked at pool, as per usual, it was time to head back for supper, and ohh lord have mercy it was good. On saturday it was time for some shoppin, so we headed over to futureshop for some printer ink and some minor groceries, ( mandarin dressing and mushrooms!!!!!) then baaaaaack to the double deude for some refreshments as it was damn close to 40c ( 110F for you yanks) and for supper was praries surf and turf. Steaks and shrimp. and yes the taste buds went "omfg you gotta be kidding..exotic flavors !!!" and for desert. a trip to homestyle ice cream in my old neighborhood. and that was the icing on the cake. the rest of the night as fun as hell..drinkin and shootin the shit. on saunday it was relaxing day...went and bought a book. then for a bit me and my bud( dad ) went up for some drinks and came home.. supper was ribs and salad. that was unnnnbelievably good and for desert, angel food cake and strawberries.. that was my b'day cake which is all right by me. Monday it was time to come home. and it was along one. I did however slip my bud (dad ) $20 as per tradition. You see everytime I see my bud, i slip him some cash so he can havce a nice cold one one me, sureI know I shouldn't but hey what the hell. I can easily afford it. This may be the last time I see them before they go stateside to spend christmas with sis in Iowa andtake care of my new nephew or niece, but some how I have this feelin its a boy.

God i love going home for a break.. sure feels good then again so does a nice cold beer with its 35c ( 104degF )out !!!!!!!!!

Well the time is gettin closer and closer untill i go home for 10days in september and I think i'm gettin a little bit too anxious. Sure I have my ticket so its all good but last night it hit me. I'm gettin a tad too touristy. I have a 3 memory cards for my digital camera totalling 1.56gigs of space, 2 extra batteries as well. To top everything else off I have all my travel kit stuff ready to go. Maybe I am gettin a little bit anxious but it has been after all 10 years since I left Nova Scotia, and I do have alot of people to see and places to visit. The Other Holy Grail

YES !!! Thats right. Yes, that is indeed the CFL's Grey Cup. Not bad for lookin close to 100yrs old now huh. From left to right are Drew, Kelly, Julien, ME and Marius. Drew and Marius work in the Produce dept at my store and kelly is a fellow general clerk. and Julien works at Scotiabank downtown. The game was the Calgary Stampders taking on me and drews team, the Hamilton Tiger-Cats. Sadly the the ticats got severaly outplayed by a score of 36-9. Sure some think of it as a loss, but I think of it more as a learning opertunity. Its only a loss if you don't learn from it and make the same mistakes over and over . I did notice alot of things. Firstly the field isnt as big as it looks on TV, its actually smaller, the kickers aren't kickin it high at all, so needless to say I learned a few things. We didn't see thew half time show as we went out, had a few brews and stretch. Then we went back in and watched the last of the games, sadlyI left after that game since i had to be at work for 9:30am the next morning, but iIcaught the pre canada day fireworks while i was waiting for the c-train. In all a killer time and cant wait for the next game, hopefully it will be against my other team the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.

Summer Fun in the City

Saturday is a day that I am really looking forward to. My first football game of the season. The Calgary Stampeders take on the Hamilton Tiger-Cats in the season opener here and its gunna kick some major ass. As for me Im a Winnipeg Blue-Bombers fan so I'm not really partial at this game, but on the other hand, my Dad is a huge Tiger-cats fan. For one christmas I gave him a Tiger Cats Jason Mass jersey and this past fathers day I gave him a replica Tiger-cats helmet. Since this the season opener as well as the canada day long weekend it should be a really huge opening. This is my very last splurge before september.

In september im flying home back to nova scotia for a very close friends wedding. Its been 10 years since i was back there and its time to go " home for a rest ". I'm heading dow for 1 relaxing, glorious stress less days. Once I come home from that, im thinkin i'll start saving up for a house. A nice little 2 or 3 bedroom place where I can pudder around. Thats the one thing I miss about being in a appartment/condo. Not much to do maintence wise. Sure I can vacumme the floors, mop them and or change lightbulbs if necessary, but with a houe i can mow the lawn, shovel snow, put in a garden if i want, change door handles/ hinges, paint small piddly stuff like that. But like all things we shall see happens. my rent is afterall locked untill june of 2008.

Also, my sister is having #2. A little person that dailyn can say " mommy it wasn't me, the baby did it". Me, I'm thinkin sis is havin a boy and so does she but we shall see. Think i'll save for a trip stateside to see my new nephew around maybe may but one never know what I'm gunna do next !!!!!!!!

RLD Progam I'm On

The following is a VERY short description of the progam I'm on here at Canada Safeway:

The purpose of the RLD program is to develop Store Directors who will lead the future by delivering superior customer service, achieving expected operating results and being a leader/coach for their store associates. Openings in the program are based on Division needs and not by individual District needs. The program is individualized, with the average time allowed for completion being two years. Each trainee is assigned to an exceptional Store Director ( usually a store manager ) for a portion of the training. This Store Director will serve as a coach, leader and trainer for the Retail Leadership Trainee (RLT) as he/she progresses through the training. The RLT will train in two phases, which include a combination of classroom, independent study and on the job training. Following the successful completion of Phase I (approximately 5 months), the RLT may be placed as an Assistant Store Director or may be placed in a Special Project or Department Management position until such an opening is available.

Phase I :
You will spend the 5 months at a specially selected training store. During that time you will attend classes, work in each major department in the store, learn about the financial reports used to measure sales results, acquire knowledge of the duties of managing a shift, and complete a detailed written analysis of one department as well as the entire store.

Phase II :
You will work as an Assistant Manager, and continue to receive additional management training. You will then develop and present three detailed store projects. At the end of Phase II, you should possess the skills necessary to perform successfully in the Store Manager selection process

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES OF AN RLT :

(include, but are not limited to):
Being a superior service role model
Completing all assignments and tests successfully
Attending all required seminars
Completing various Department On-the-Job Training Programs

OK...Its time for me to weigh in on this whole facebook thing. Personally I'm likin it alot. Since i started on there i've re-united with old friends and made some new ones. Hell I didnt know one of my best buds Rob was now living and teaching in Japan. As well I found old friends living in Edmonton, Halifax, and even in ottawa and points west. Only thing that could shock me right now is that if one of them was here in Calgary !!!

In other news....

The quarterback of my beloved Iowa Hawkeyes, Drew Tate has signed with the * shudders* Saskatchewan Roughriders. Why??? I have no clue maybe he likes green and white, personally I would have thought Hamilton since he's use to the black and gold as they are the same colours as the hawkeyes !!

as for the CFL this year. Im thinkin Hamilton or Winnipeg in the east (gotta give my dad hope since hes a ti-cats fan *lol* ) and possably either BC or Calgary in the east, but I'm leaning to BC this year.

New Metal this month

Well its new heavy metal cd release time again. I picked up the new Megadeth cd "United Abominations " the new Type-O-Negative cd "Dead Again" and the new Ozzy cd "Black Rain". so heres the reviews. Megadeth's "United Abominations". What can I say Dave still has the gift. After his surgery alot of people were wondering IF he could still give 'er. Well he sure can. After seeing them in concert in march I couldnt wait for it. I have 3 favorite track. "Gears of War" "Sleepwaker" and "tout la monde". The last one may seem framilular. You see " À Tout Le Monde" was originally released on ""Youthanasia" which came out in 1994, but this version is better. It has a special guest on it. None other than Cristina Scabbia of Lacuna Coil. the video for it is really sweet. its set in a post-apocalypse new york landscape.

Type-O-Negative "Dead Again". Another classic from the drab 4 from the brooklynn. Its been too long since the last cd "Life Is Killing Me", and this one delivers. its classic TON. need i say more. My fav tracks on this one are "The Profits of Doom" and "Halloween in Heaven". if your into TON get this one you wont be disapointed.

last but not least

Ozzy Osbourne "Black Rain". Wow !!!! the long wait is over and it worth it. The whole cd kicks ass. Its been 6 long years fromt he last studio cd "Down To Earth". And as per usual this whole cd is insane. from Zakks guitar riffs to Blasko's bass and Puffys drum work, it truely delivers. I dont have a fav song on this one but "I Don'd Wanna Stop" could pass for a Black Label Society song anyday. Watch out for the didgerdoo on the song "Black Rain" its wierd hearing it but its all good. Zakk and Ozzy wrote all but 2 of the songs on the cd so that should tell you how close they are. rumor has it that there are 3 bonus tracks but they are only available on the japanese release as well as itunes. they are called Nightmare" (Japanese and i-Tunes Bonus Track) , "I Can't Save You" (Japanese Bonus Track) and "Love to Hate" (i-Tunes pre-order only). So keep and ear out for them.

All I need now is a new Static-X and Fear Factory CD and I'm all set !!

The 1st year at Safeway

Today is the 1 year anniversary of when I started at Safeway. I wasn't too sure what to expect when I first started there, afterall comming from Federated Co-op Ltd in North Battleford, I was sure it would be a little simular, and boy was I wrong. Theres a lot of differences, sure there are alot the same but there are a whole wack load of differences like deliveries. they trucks arrive between 6:00pm and 9:00pm every night instead at 5:30am at co-op. At co-op you get 1 truck and it has everything on it, dairy,produce, grocery, bakery, deli, and frozen. safeway you get 3 or 4 trucks depending on the day. On mondays and thursdays you get grocery, bread, frozen and gm/hbc. On saturday and sundays you get grocery, bread and frozen. The rest of the week you get grocery and bread. Later on in the night you get produce and dairy. I guess another major difference is that safeway has a night crew. They work from 11:30pm to 8:00am and all they do is work the grocery / frozen order when it arrives.

Another difference is that the suppliers like Coke, Pepsi, Old Dutch, Hostess and Canada Bread do NOT put their orders away, they just deliver it. We general clerks, as safeway calls us, do that during either the 9:30am - 6:00pm or 3:00pm to 11;30pm shift. You see the store I work at is open from 8:00am to 11:00pm 7 days a week. That's right 15hrs a day !!. We also during the day work dairy (liquid and eggs only ) and bread. We are also taught how to run a cash register when the store gets backed up at the front which is usually between 5:00pm and 8:00pm or as we call it the " oh damn I needed something for supper" hour. We also get a extra $1.00 a hour as clerks in charge ( aka acting manager) and a extra $1.50 after 10:00pm at night which isn't that bad considering all we do is close and lock the mall entrance and close and lock the main door at 10:55pm. When it comes to facing the store, the night crew does that once the grocery order is done which can vary from 400 pieces to as much as 1200 pieces. All we do is face the bunk ends, the pop isle and the chip isle as well as tables we have in the lobby and pallet displace in the main entrance area.

We have courtesy clerk who all they do is pack groceries, sweep the store once every 90minutes, they wrap flours,get carts and do car service. So they are quite busy at times. The other big thing is what are called Out Of Stocks. And all that is is just walking thru every..yes EVERY isle in the store ( except Meat and Produce but includes Pharmacy and part of Bakery) and scanning all the spots that are totally empty of product. At the store I am it, it takes between 45 and 60 minutes, we do after all have 14 isles not including produce ( the store covers 50,000 Sq Ft or 1.147 acres)

So your probably asking yourself do you you like it? I can say this HELL Yeah!!! its like the lines from the song "The Old Black Rum" by Great Big Sea. "Every day is different, but the nights are all the same. " You never know what your going to be doing day to day. Take today for example. I did the old dutch order, the hostess/lays order, some directs and I tore down a 24ft section off odds and ends and turned it into a 24ft section of seasonal product with pop, chips, beans, water, ice tea mixes (ice-tea here in Canada is made with crystals like tang unlike the USA where its teabags in water, which up here is called sun-tea), BBQ sauces/marinates, condiments ( ketchup, mustard, relish ). Then afterwards, I made signs and tags for it so we can order more when we need to. Does it look great, sure does, was it tough, most definitely, does the boss like it, absolutely. In fact the planogram ( schematic ), arrived today and its not suppose to be up until monday, so were 2 days ahead of the game. The last thing we do is whats caled NCC or night crew communications. And all that is, is we tell them whos working tonight, how big the order is and any other relevant information such as what we need extra of, anything upcoming visits from v.i.p.s, anybody who's called in sick. Things like that they wouldn't necessarily know about

So do I like safeway better than co-op ? Absolutely because you never ever never do the same thing to do day to day. (except when your closing and you top up the dairy, bread and eggs when you start at 3:00pm face what you usually do, and of course lock all the doors) Is the money better ? Most definitely, I can say this, at $16.65 a hr ( $14.97 US ) I clear just over between $2100 and $2500 a month (depending on the paydays in the month, we get paid EVERY week instead of bi-weekly ) after taxes. That's between $1,888.39 and $2,248.08 US a month. Not bad for putting stocking shelves huh!!!!!!

So put this all together and do the math. Then ask yourself, does he like his job with all of this going on? I think you be right in saying ohhh most defiantly.

wow its been a while since ive done this...where to start....

the list of concerts Lamb Of God, Trivium, Machine Head, Hatebreed, Fear Factory, Heaven and Hell ( black sabbath with dio), Megadeth and Black Label Society. Hardcore bands but a hell of a blast.. then i was at a Calgary Roughnecks game and that was fun so i'm looking forward to that next year, and possably buying season tickets. On a very high note, my parents were here for 3days at the end or march and a great time was had by all, except for when i took mom and dad up to the tower and mom freaked about standing on the glass floor on the observation deck, oh well its all good and she got use to it. On a sad note the Flames were ousted from the playoff by detroit redwings last night so thats not good, but now that sprin has sprung its time to turn to thoughts of football, and mountian biking. The winter wasnt bad and spring is just that spring, temps up and down but in all its been awesome. When i left battleford i gave it a year to see whats its like and upon reflecting its been a good move, im happy, healthy, makin good money and just havin a blast. As for the year to come well i got stuff planed in both july and september. In july im flying to saskatoon to see my sister and family when they come up for a week, and the last week in september i'll be in nova scotia for a close friends wedding, so this looks like its gunna be a blast of a year

They are here on April 12th over at Mac Hall, so yes I am goin!!! what a anniversary present eh! April 15th is when i moved here to calgary so aint that grand. talk about one hell of a anniversary present. first Fear Factory now Black Label Society. I think I am in heaven !!!!!

The date is febuary 12th, 2007 and its more december 12th... Its been snowing for 7 days straight and were adveraging 2-3cm ( a inch ) a day. mind you they say that a chinook is on the way for the weekend but they also said that was supose to stop snowing 2day, which it ,of course, s not!. apparently the the chinook arrives on wed with a temperature of +5 c then +3c on thurs, +6c on fri and +3c on saturday then back to seasonal, for my friends in the states thats mid 30F range. scary part is that i had to open the windows to keep them from freezing shut so incase of a emergency i can open them. sure were bitchin about the cold now, but come june/july/august, we;ll be bitchin about the heat !!! god i love this country

ok..major decision time.. it was announced today that Heaven and Hell are comming to town. Heaven and Hell is a music collatoration featuring current Black Sabbath members Tony Iommi and Geezer Butler, along with former members Ronnie James Dio and Vinny Appice. Putting to bed the long standing rumors of a reunion tour and sure to be one of the most anticipated rock tours of 2007, Heaven and Hell will play the Saddledome on Wednesday, March 14th. Opening for Heaven and Hell are multi-platinum recording artists Megadeth and Down. man if that isnt a mix of old school and new school metal i dont know what is !!!!!!

Well it looks like march will be a very good fun month for me . Firstly mom and dad will be comming from Saskatoon on the march 23rd weekend for 4 day visit. got alot planned to do with them. going to do the tourist thing with them like the calgary tower, eau clare market, prince island park possably and the glenmore museum then some souvineer shoppin and some liquid refreshment. then just before that, the first concert of 2007. Me, Drew and Darcy will be attending Trivium/Machine-Head/Lamb of God on march 4th at MacEwan Ballroom on the beautiful University of Calgary campus. its the 2nd time i would have been to a concert there. the first was Hatebreed. this one should be fun since its in ballroom downstairs and not up in the mini hall where hatebreed played... should be fun for all

Well old man winter reared his ugly mug over the last few days. Calgary didnt get hit as hard as they thought we would but none the less it was a wild one. Lucky me worked last night and when I left for work at 2:20p it was a slightly cool - 35deg c outside with the windchill ( for you in the US thats -31F) however, at 11:30p when I came home, its was a very chilly -42deg c (-43F for my us friends ) . However for my parents who live in Saskatoon (90mins from where I moved from ) it was very very bad. The temperatures there were the same, but it was so bad that they acutallu shut the entire city down. The closed the airport, shutdown the main highways to both Edmonton (3hrs north of me) and and Calgary. From what the drivers and the news have been saying, the entire province of Saskatchewan was shut down. Todays not so bad but the wind is making things nippy but the warming trend will get her soon. They are saying +5deg c (41F ) by next tuesday, but we shall see.

Happy New Year my friends.. So heres the thing I have set 3 new years resolutions

1) im just gunna keep on doing what im doing right now and keep havin fun doing it.

2) im gunna get my butt up to the columbia ice fields too check out the glaciers

3) I AM gunna go back to nova scotia in june..come hell or high water i will be there. been 10yrs since i left and havent looked back since

thats it.. i dont smoke so i dont have worry about quitting that..im not gunna cut back on the beer since the hours i do work are odd and i werk about 1/2 the weekends in the month so thats no big deal, and lastly im not gunna get in shape / lose weight since i get a decent work out at work and mountian bike in the summer, if anything im gunna gain some bulk and thats it. nothing drastic or insane just stuff id like to do. that and maybe take flying lessions but we will see about that one! *lol*

well well welll....here we are...6 days till christmas and i finally have my parcels ready to go.. aftermuch scowering for boxes and parcel boxes i finally am done... now i know they will be late but thats my own doing..so im guity as charged, but the move here to calgary and trying to find all the xmas stuff and realizing that its gone i had to buy new stuff, so with all thats going on its over whelming, but its all wrapped and ready to go out tomorrow... cans safly say i went goofy this year, especially on my niece dailyn..i think shes got about 5 presents in the parcel im sending sis but since theres bubble wrap in it, i think shed get more foun out of that then her presents...mom and dad are gettin small stuff but my big gift to them is a trip here to calgary in april and that im really looking forward too... you know doing the " tourist thing "...you know hittin the calgary tower, the saddledome and maybe a trip to the canada olympic park who knows, plenty of time to decide...but most importantly is my trip home for my bud Barrys wedding...been 10yrs since I left and cant wait to see how much hasnt changed... ahhh some fun will be had by all thats for sure !!!

New Beginings and ??????

As 2006 nears its end its time to reflect on the year that was 2006. I started off the year in North Battleford, Sk working at the Battlefords co-op Market Place. Then i made the very tuff decision to leave and head for grener pastures. So in April 1st I gave my 2 weeks notice and that stunned alot of people. I was getting bored doing the same thing day after day and I needed a change, so I made one. On april 15th i moved to Calgary, sure it was major change but i had alot of people backing me up and helping me make the move. Sure it was ruff going for 2 weeks getting use to the city and finding my way around, but I pulled it all up anf got down to business of lookin for a job, and sure enough I found one. I went into the Beddington Safeway and wham, within 10mins i had a full time job working in the grocery end. Little did I know what I had gotten myself into. I made my self at home and started fitting in right off the bat. I had Julie, Tim, Drew and Raphael make me fell welcome and i fit right in. After thre 1st week I knew this was the place for me. I never did the same thing day after day, it was a constant "what will this day bring me" mentality. Sure theres some stuff that ya do day to day but thats broke up over the week. Sure we work Pepsi (yuck) coke ( yum) Hostess/Old Dutch (mmmm) Lays (blah) Christies and Dare orders but thats no biggy, its when you start off the day doing say working Coke and the next thing ya know its 2pm and you filling the dairy. then after that your up at the front running a till. I love it, you never know whats gunna happen day to day.

I've managed to see some Flames games, a couple of Stampeders games even been to 2 concerts here in the last while. been to a couple of shopping malls ( i still like the Eau Clare Market downton) , been to the top of Nose Hill Park on my mountian bike and loving every single minute of it, all i gotta do now is go over to canada olympic park and have a run on a bobsled down the bobsled track from the 1988 olympics that were held here, that i'll do in maybe febuary.

So thats my year in review, been alot of changes for me both mentally, emotionaly and physically, and thru all of this I have all my friends back in Battleford to thank and to mom and bud to thank you for all your support. not bad for a kid from Greenwood NS. who would have thought 10yrs ago when I left that id be living and working in Calgary, Ab not me thats for damn sure. May 2007 be one hell of a ride !!!!!

As good ole Jim Ross from the WWE would say " Holy hellfire and brimstone" last night was a total fruken riot, I went to see one of my 2 all time favoriute bands ( Black Label Society being #1). FEAR FACTORY!!!!! they are currently on the Machines of War tour with death metal pioneers SUFFOCATION, and the new bloods HYPOCRISY and DECAPITATED. they were all on one stage at a bar called The Warehouse / The Underground. the bar itself was maybe 50ft wide and 200ft long with the stage right in front.. the show was intense. spent the better part of the night in the VIP area and then once fear factory hit the stage i got my butt into the pit for FF since i am a huge fan of these guys, so when all was said and done we left after the show which was at 12:30a and then we went out from some more drinkin. darcy ( friend of mine ) dropped me off at home shortly before 3:30am so it was fun...did i forget to mention that i worked from 9am - 5:30pm yesterday so yeah it was a long day but after being in the pit for fear factory and drinkin a few beers it made the day a total freakin blast. the next big concert in town is Cradle Of Filth and the openinng act for them is The 69 Eyes...not sure if im going but i will see, so if you ever get the chance to see Fear Factory do it !!!!!

Great Big Sea...the one band that i love from home. I've seen these guys more times than any other band.. They hail from the tropical island of Newfoundland... which is from where my #1 bud was born back in the spring of 1944... now let me explain something to ya.. you see it confuses da be-jesus out of my friends when i tell them i dont have a dad.. i have a bud.. you see me and my bud have a very speical bond thats beyond family and friendship. we have done everything together from fishin along the Bedford highway with perrywinkles for bait to walking across a rain soaked road to pick up some stuff from a broken car across from Wolfville.. we have drank many a case of beer, eaten many bags of piggy puffs and lord knows how many times he s kicked my arse at pool both at the bar and at the legion but 2 of the best memories i have is my very 1st rememberance day when i was in the military and my graduation from basic training..to this day i can see the pride in his eyes when i look at the pictures not only is my dad my bud but hes my best friend..s ure i kid ya about shippin your arse back to the island but i love ya...heres to ya bud !!

paradise has frozen over

well here we are.. just 27 days from christmas and paradise has frozen over...not only did we get a nice dump of snow.. between 30 and 40cm ive been hearing (11 - 15 inches) but the temperature has sunk faster than a brick.. last night the low was -41 degree Celsius or -41.8 degree Fahrenheit... right now as i write this we are under a severe windchill warning which means the northerly winds combined with cold temperature are bringing extreme wind chill of -40 to Calgary and Airdrie ( Airdrie is about 5km or 10miles away ) regions tonight, so its not very nice out here.. there were over 200 accidents in the last 24hrs and several cases of frostbite in the city.. the city buses were running 10 minutes late and traffic was so slow that i got to work before the bus that passed me while i was walking got to the lighs at the corner of Beddington Trail and Center Street.. gotta love canadian winters just like fire..beautiful but very deadly

Yesterday was the begining of the end. yesterday was calgarys annual Santa Claus Parade, so needless to say the malls were packed to see the big fat man in all his glory. went over to sunridge mall to get some stuff and the minute i got in the parking lot omg it was it ever packed. walking thru the mall kids were running around, people were on cell phones and carrying bags from stores like LaSensa, The Bay, American Outfitters and Eddie Bauer. didnt stay long because the crowds were gettin thick so i grabbed lunch at Arbys and left. gotta love christmas shoppin in a city of 1.5 million people. instant chaos !!!!

ahh yes..the infamous pre christmas get away..i swear by jesus that everybody should take one from time to time so they can escape the incomming insanity. so heres how she wentdown .. left here on a sunny friday and arrived on a dark chillyfriday night to a warm welcome reception..hugs and hand shakes were to had by all. no soooner had i arrived than there was a tall cold BEER in my hand !!!... mmmmmmmmm beeeeeeer...alas it wasnt m overall fav but non the less it was cold, wet and alchoholic.. the brand of the day was Kokanee the usual beer out here. my choice of beer Alexander keiths india pale ale ( those who love it love it alot), my 2nd choice molson canadian. sure its the oldest brewery in canada but my all time fave is #2. so after a case we called it a night. sat morning was the usual routine,, up breakfast, shower and out the door for some visitin. had a great visit with all the usual suspects. rob, dave, jeff and pat and of course mark. ended up drinkin close to about 6 large 2x2 ( thats 2 cream 2 sugar for you non coffee lovers)and a snack pack of timbits (20). we got back to the house shortly before to change since we had to look pretty fror supper, then out we went. i had a tastey grilled chicken cesear salad, after that the partying began. i ended up killin 12 by meself and then i had a coffee. later that night after much sweet delectables (mostly molson canadian of course) we got back to the house sometime between 2am and 2:30am after a few brews who cares what time it is right. i crashed around 3a and woke up the the wonderful smell of bacon and eggs filling the house. didnt go anywhere 2day untill around noon and then the travelling began.. 7hrs later here we are... relaxing and just enjoyin the day that was. what shall become tomorrow.. who knows just gunna let the day go and see where she ends up, probably at tim hortons no doubt !!!!!

Ok so I lied. I will be going to Fear Factory on December 2nd. Me, Drew, Darcy and Chris are going down to check it out. Im working that day untill 6pm so darcey is picking us up at work and then heading down to The Warehouse where they are playing. for $30.25 there are four bands, Fear Factory, Decapitated, Suffocation and Hypocrisy. I have heard for Decapitated abut arent too sure about the other 2. I guess I will find out on Dec 2nd. Drews been listening to FF and has a few fav songs. Me ive ben listening to them for a few years, so I knwo the stuff. tood bad Dino isnt with them i would have loved to see the guy play.

hardcore delight

last night I had such a freaking kick ass blast of hardcore last night. you see me and a bud of mine from work (fellow metal head Drew) went to MacEwan Hall at the university where we hooked up with some of his friends of his to see HATEBREED!!!!! if you EVER get the chance to see these guys, frick do it. the show as absolutly amazing. the opening acts were not to bad but then Sworn Enemy hit the stage and they kicked hardcore ass. good hardcore metal the way it should be played. loud, heavy and fast. they did 2 sets and then hatebreed hit the stage and the crowd went balisitic. we were whipped into a mosh pit frenzy. there were 2 going. one going clockwise and the other counter clockwise. i only saw 2 people get " escorted out " buy security. all in all drank about a case and a half of beer, saw boobies. ( yes they were impressive ) i got gropped by a couple of girls ( by accident of course. or was it?? mind you it happens when your in a mosh pit). i did not have my nomads on that i bought, however i did have my dimebag tribute shirt on and i got a alot of complements on it. one chick wanted to buy it off me for $50 but i said no since its one of a kind and ya cant find it anywhere, but she gave me a hug and said " dimebag would love this" a touching moment between 2 metalheads. sure she was maybe 25 at that but hey, its all about themetal. then we shared a splash of water. hokey i know but no liquor was allowed in the hall, however we did run into eachother in the beer garden and she did buy me a shot so since we couldnt then we did give a tribute to dime in the beer garden. for those who dont know Dimebag Darrell was ( and will always be ) the lead guitarist for one of the founding bands of metal PANTERA along with his brother vinnie and later onthe they formed Damageplan !!!! tragically, he was gunned down on stage last year by a fan who blamed him for the break up of pantera, when word got out, it hit the metal community very hard, i guess you could say it rocked it to the foundation, but it hit Zakk hardest of all , for him it was loosing a brother. thats why the song "in this river" is dedicated to him. if you can check it out.. its a very moving tribute.

all i can say is this one can't be topped, or can it only time will tell FEAR FACTORY is commin to town on decemebr 2nd so going to thats a possablility but with xmas commin i think im tapped out for now!

Today is the first day of the new 2006/07 NHL Season and the hockey pools are in full swing. people made their picks and now the fun begins. drunken dabochery on week nights,late games on cbc, the trip to the Saddledome to watch our beloved flames kick ass. the fan-atic stores at Eau Clare and the Saddledome are busy with people buying stuff. everything from jerseys and t-shirts to kids hats and posters. me i got my jersey but theres no name on it yet but that will change very soon. im trying to decide wether to get Iginla, Kiprusoff, or Tanguay on it. im oreleaning to Tanguay since hes new to the team from Colorado. The Calgary Flames open the 2006-07 regular season with “The Battle of Alberta.” On Thursday, October, 5th, the Flames travel to Edmonton to face the Oilers at Rexall Place, game time is 8pm (MT). The Flames first home game is Saturday, October 7th at the Pengrowth Saddledome at 8pm (MT) in the return game against the homely Edmonton Oilers. when these two get together, its aaaaaaaaaaaaalllways good

I know that were a few days away from a certian event and that scares me to no end. Im sittin here 9:45p MDT and theres a house just across from me with a christmas tree up. yes thats right. a christmas tree. now i know that were just under 90days away and there is snow up in the mountians ( i saw it on sunday as i was commin back from SunRidge Mall) but thats besides the point. cant we get things like over with Halloween, Thanksgiving and Rememberance first, sure i unloaded 8 pallets of halloween candy yesterday and 4 palletes of pumpkin pie today, but damnit people give us a break. hell we just got our sears wishbook a month a go. now i know some of you may quite possably have your shoppin done now ( right mom) but thats only because you either :

a) have the money

b) sending it either out of country or overseas

c) just becuase you want it over with

dont get me wrong, its nice to get ahead of these things but at the same time you may forget what ya bought and buy some more, so if thats the case well then ya got birthdays overwith

well boys and girls, after a nice relaxing four day vacation from work and the city i feel revitalized and ready to "git'r dooooooooooone ". it never ceases to amaze me how if you live in a big bustling breakneck speed city how going to a small town can change your outlook on life. the fresh air, open spaces, the silence, good company and a nice cold frost schooner of beer makes life in the fastlane a bit more barable. just knowing that i can take a four day mini holiday is really nice and an escape is once again possable from time to time. weither its to the cool snowcapped magestic mountains with a fishin pole, tent and beer or spendin time with family in a little pub drinkin beer and shootin pool with your old man its all good.. i guess what they say is true. "escaping reality is nice, but going back to reality sucks"

On sunday moring i was happily crusing the net checking stuff out and my net crapped out..no biggy i thought since i knew it was along weekend and people wer back to school. get home on sunday night after a good night at werk and its still down. thought ok long weekend no worries. get up monday moring same routine, but this time i get home and call my ISP and they tell me they cant figure it out so they would call me back tues night since i close. get home, they call whamm all back to normal. turns out its the splitter that allows me to have cable and my net in one shot. so i have to hook up direct to wall line, cool. check my mail, cruse for a bit. before i goto bed hook everything back up, get up have breakfast watch some tv so i decide to go chk my stuff, unplug everything fire up baby ( snaity helper) and bloody hell the things not werkin, so i grab mny cell call my isp whammo it comes back online. grrrrrrrg modern tech gotta love it. " The more they overthink the plumbing, the easier it is to stop up the drain " god Scotty was right even more so, so was Star Trek !!!!!

Tomorrow is the day all flames fans have been witing for since the tragic events of last year. the 2006/07 Season tickets go on sale. The addition of new members of the Calgary Flames as Alex Tanguay, Jeff Friesen and Andrei Zyuzin make their Flames debut. Also, goaltender Jamie McLennan returns to help run for the cup again this year. Sadlt I am unable to pertake in these but i will catch a few games this year, especially if they are against Edmonton, Colorado, or Anaheim. Got my jersey ready and i'll be pickin up a official one when the old bank account permits. probable a Iginla , Tanguay or Kiprusoff..who knows maybe I will get one with my name on it...who knows !!!!

well well well..it was exactially 4 months ago today. April 16/ 2006 that I left the city of North Battleford and moved to the city of Calgary, Alberta. I can safely say that i absolutely love it here. ive done alot, seen alot and spent alot, well within reason of course. there are but 2 places here i have yet to goto. the top of Nosehill Park for the amazing view of the city and mountains, and the zoo. Im not much of a science buff but the zoo is something i want to see, well there is 1 creature there and thats the Grey Wolf. For those who know me, they know how much i loves wolves as some have seen what i have in the way of paintings and figurines. the zoo also has 2 things unique, first they have a live webcam on the osprey which is kind neat to watch if you have some free time, also a elephant named Kamala. recently one of her paintings sold for just under $1200 cdn ( 1,065.09 US or 835.78 Euros ) below are the links for the webcam and kamalas paintings. god i love this city !!!!

The last 24hrs have been full of such delights. NOT, heres the scoop. we had light rain, heavy rain, thunder, intense lightning and even golf size hail was reported in some parts of calgary. lightining started small fire on the roof of a home on Sienna Park Terrace N.W. after it was hit. The man living there was shocked while working at his computer when his home was struck.
In the southwest part of the city, the lightning punched a hole in the roof of a home in the on the 7500 block of Elkton Drive. In the northeast, lightning hit an open field at 11th Avenue and 84 Street. It also hit a tree in the vicinity of the Marlborough School. The storm also briefly knocked out electricity to Glamorgan, Glendale, Glenbrook and parts of Killarney. There was also flooding and hail in parts of the Lake Chaparral area you gotta love this crazy shit.

here it is august 2nd 2006 in the beautiful mountian city of Calgary and its a gorgeous day. to think it was 16yrs ago to day that Iraq invaded the country of kuwait kicking off Operations Desert Shield, Storm and Sabre. what people dont know is that Operation Desert Saber was the name ground war. mostly people talk about desert storm and shield. nice way to remember ones birthday. on a happier note i have something new to add to my dvd collection. "Pinky and The Brain Volume 1 " i am a huge fan and cant wait to watch it all, and with the week i have off from work due to a accident it should be fun. i took a palette jack to the chest while moving a bundle of cardboard, and ended up getting a brusied sternum with a hair like crack but its nothing major but i cant work due to the heavy loads that i deal with on a daily basis.

I have been to most of the major cities in canada and nothing compares to that 1st day of hockey season. the 1st satruday is always thrilling, at 6pm localtime we all sit down and turn on Hockey Night In Canada. ok so today i ventured dow to the world famous calgary stampede. i took city transit down so that was $2.25. it cost $12 to get in and believe me it was well worth it. the parking alone was between $10-15. paying $2.25 sure beats the $15 parkin. it was rather busy when i went down at 11a. later i found out it was seniors day so anyone over 65 got in for free. good thing i went today tomorrow is kids day so it is going to be a zoo. the canadian military had a CF-18 fighter, a griffen helecopter, a leopard tank, a lav3 and the new g-wagon which is whats replacing the altis ( light transoprt) the weather was really nice..sunny with a slight breeze which made it alot more bareable. i even thought i saw some the the Calgary Flames hockey team members there, but cant be sure. the rides were fun. i managed to go on a couple. been a while but it was worth the fun. for $20 i got 22 ride coupons and it was fun. i was on ther Fireball,Twister,Wave Swinger and Scooter1 aka Bumpercars. all day fun for a reasonable price. in all it was a great day. saw alot, bought some stuff and had fun and that was what this day was for..pure fun

over the last few months, people have asked what i listen to well i absolutely hate the top 40 bubble gum, pussy pop manufactured cookie cutter crap thats out there now. seems like ya dont have to have any talent to be good.. look at american idiot (eye-dull ) does anybody remeber who has won.. i dont be thinkin so. then ya got the pop princes and princesses out there so manufactured that they make ken and barbie look plain and dull like dick and jane. and now this your NOT a boy band unless you can play insturments and the skin flute dont count buttnut. your a boy group!!!! thats the whole truth and nothin but the truth. so with that rant done , heres a short list of what im into:

Rob Zombie / White Zombie. Wow what a few years makes for him. from whit zombie to zombie then to rob zombie. his new cd is alot from what your expecting from th eold white zombie days. still love this guy after all these years. for those wondering the girl in all his videos is his wife Sherry Moon-Zombie. he has also had a couple of huge movies " House of 1000 corpses" and his new one " The Devils Rejects". i highly sugges you chek out this move. 70's classic horror all the way. and recently he is to direct the new "zombified " classic "Halloween" cant wait to see this one.

ok heres the poop. have ya ever notice the way some people shop. some go isle by isle while for others its total chaos. i stoot at work today just watchin people shop and its funny. first they go for the simple things like bread, milk and eggs then they dive head first into anarchy, running all over the place looking for stuff. so far the best example of anar-shopping ( combo of anarchy and shopping ) is this. " excuse me. can you tell me where i find vegatables"... "fresh..frozen..or canned" ..."uhh gee im not really sure" ok now was that stupid or what! sure i know ya get a little mental if your in a hurry, but still. such is life in the retail business.

for those who know me all to well, recently i have aquired an addiction to sushi, yes thats right sushi. i had some at werk one night and i just loved it. not sure why. maybe is because its got 2 things i really enjoy. rice and fish. the 1st six individual ones I had was rice with smoked salmon the othert 6 had cucumber and rice and tomatoe chunks and rice. needless to say its a nasty addiction so i am cutting back on it but not my coffee from starbucks..my double latte' is a must. but i have also not given up my large double double from tim hortons ( for those in the USA or oversas) is a canadian coffee shop chain thats very popular among us canadians. the teram "double double ' is int he candian english dictionary and is " 2 cream and 2 sugar hence double double" . for more information goto www.timhortons.com for more info.

canada day and stampede

well here it is boys and girls. 2 days before canada day. i can proudly say that i am canadian and i love my country. life here is awesome. the beers cold, the pizza is warm and the party is on the go. sadly i have to work this one but its all good in the end come payday. on july 7th it is the first day of stampede. nearly 100 years in the making it brings together 1000's of people for a week long rodeo event and party. they say over a million dollars will pass thru the city and with the added bonus of the popularity of the movie "Brokeback Mountain" people will be floodin in fro all over north america as well as europe. in case your wondering where calgary is in the world, were located at the foot of the majestic rocky mountians. and were only a 45min drive from Hanna alberta home of the hardrock band Nickleback. all i can say, its good to be a calgarian and more so a canadian.
